Dr Cheikh Tidiane GADIO

Minister of State and Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Senegal (2000-2009)
Vice President of the National Assembly (October 2019 and 2022), Dr. Cheikh Tidiane GADIO has been the President of the Pan-African Institute for Strategies, Peace-Security-Governance (IPS) since 2012.

He is also the leader of a political party: the MPCL (Pan-African and Citizen Movement-Luy Jot Jotna), a member of the Presidential Majority.

He served as the Special Envoy of the OIC in the Central African Republic (2014-2017) and as the former Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the OIC for Africa (2016-2017).

In March 2008, he was the chief negotiator on behalf of the heads of state for the "Dakar Peace Agreement," which ended military conflicts between Chad and Sudan. From 2003 to 2009, he led several mediation missions resulting in ceasefire agreements (such as the Bouaké Agreement in October 2002, which halted the rebellion in Côte d'Ivoire) or political agreements that brought peace, particularly to Madagascar, Guinea-Bissau, and Mauritania. He also played a significant role in preventing a direct military confrontation between the USA and Libya between 2003 and 2005.

A former Director of Africa for SIT (School for International Training in Vermont, USA) and former Director of Africa for World Links for Development (World Bank in Washington), Dr. Gadio holds a Master's degree in Sociology of Information and Communication from Paris 7 Jussieu, a DEA from the University of Paris-Sorbonne V in Mass Communication, and a Ph.D. in Communication and International Development from Ohio State University (USA).

He taught communication and journalism at UCAD (1984-88 and 1994-96).
